AI Search Optimization: Show Up in AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity
AI search optimization is the hands-on discipline of getting your pages selected and cited when AI systems answer questions — Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT's browsing and search, Perplexity's cited answers, and Bing Copilot. Where my GEO service covers the whole strategy of AI visibility, this service is the page- and site-level execution: making sure AI crawlers can access and parse your content, restructuring pages into direct-answer form, adding the structured data that machines read, and verifying results against the actual engines. It is unglamorous, checkable work — which is exactly why it works.
Who this is for
- Sites already ranking in classic Google that are getting skipped by AI Overviews and chat answers
- Businesses watching AI answers cite thinner competitors for questions they answer better
- Publishers and niche experts whose traffic mix is shifting toward AI referrals and zero-click answers
- Technical teams that want a concrete, verifiable checklist for AI readiness rather than hype
Problems it solves
- You rank on page one but AI Overviews and chat assistants cite someone else
- AI crawlers are blocked or your JavaScript-rendered content is invisible to them
- Your pages bury the answer, so extraction-based systems pass you over for pages that lead with it
- Missing structured data leaves machines guessing what your pages are and who is behind them
- You cannot tell whether any of this is improving because nobody tests against the real engines
What I do
- I audit AI-crawler access precisely: robots.txt rules, CDN bot management, rendering, and what each major AI crawler actually receives from your server
- I restructure priority pages into answer-first form: the question addressed directly in the opening, then depth, with clean heading hierarchy
- I add and validate structured data — organization, author, FAQ, article, product — so machines get unambiguous signals about your content
- I build quotable elements into key pages: definitions, statistics, and clear statements AI systems can lift with attribution
- I strengthen author and source credibility signals, because AI systems weigh who is speaking, not just what is said
- I run a fixed query set against AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity before and after, so results are verified, not assumed
What you receive
- An AI-access technical report: exactly what GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, and Google-Extended can and cannot see, with fixes applied
- Restructured answer-first versions of your priority pages
- Implemented and validated schema markup across key templates
- A citability upgrade for cornerstone content: quotable statements, sourced statistics, clear attribution
- Author and entity credibility improvements (bylines, bios, organization signals)
- Before-and-after AI answer testing across a documented query set
The process
- Access auditI test what each AI crawler actually receives from your site — not what your browser shows — and fix blocks and rendering gaps first.
- Query baselineA fixed set of real customer questions gets run through AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity, and the answers get archived.
- RestructurePriority pages get rebuilt answer-first: direct response up top, clean headings, depth below, nothing buried.
- Mark upStructured data goes in and gets validated, so machines know what each page is, who wrote it, and why to trust it.
- Add citabilityQuotable definitions, statistics, and clearly attributed claims get built into cornerstone pages — the raw material of AI citations.
- Re-testThe baseline query set gets re-run after re-crawl, and the before-and-after answers are the report.
Timeline: Access fixes and restructured pages can appear in AI answers within weeks of a re-crawl; consistent citation across a query set typically builds over 2–4 months. AI answers vary run to run, so I measure repeated trends rather than celebrating one lucky screenshot.
How this stays safe
- No manipulation attempts — no hidden instructions to AI systems, no invisible text, no schema claiming things that are not on the page
- All restructuring improves the page for human readers too; if a change only helps machines, it is the wrong change
- Structured data describes reality — misleading markup risks manual actions and destroys machine trust
- Honest reporting on variance: I show the full re-test results, not a cherry-picked win
- Built on white-hat fundamentals, so this work strengthens rather than gambles your existing Google rankings

Frequently asked questions
How is this different from your GEO service?
GEO is the strategy layer: where you stand across AI engines, entity building, third-party corroboration, and the long game of becoming a cited authority. AI search optimization is the execution layer on your own site: crawler access, page structure, schema, and citability, verified with before-and-after testing. Many clients start here because it is concrete and checkable, then expand into full GEO.
Why would AI cite a competitor that ranks below me?
Because AI answer selection is not a copy of the ranking algorithm. Extraction systems favor pages that answer the question directly near the top, in clean structure, with clear attribution. A page-one ranking with the answer buried under eight hundred words of preamble loses to a weaker page that leads with it. That is fixable, and it is most of what this service does.
Should I block AI crawlers instead, to protect my content?
That is a legitimate business decision, and for some publishers the answer is genuinely yes. But make it deliberately: blocking GPTBot and friends means you will not be cited or recommended by those systems, and many sites are blocked today by accident — a CDN toggle nobody reviewed. I make sure your settings match your actual intent, whichever direction that is.
Do AI Overviews just steal my clicks?
They reduce clicks on some informational queries — the honest data says so. The strategic response is to be the cited source rather than the invisible one: cited sources still capture the clicks that do happen, gain brand impressions in every answer, and win the higher-intent queries where people click through to act. Opting out of the fight does not opt you out of the impact.
Find out what AI engines say about you.
When customers ask ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI for what you do, someone gets named. A GEO visibility audit shows whether it's you — and how to become the answer.
